Why technical base layer fabrics dry quickly and keep you cool...
Woollen base layers are designed to be worn next to the skin and provide the wearer with comfort by maintaining body temperature and regulating moisture. They are highly moisture-wicking (they spread moisture over a large area), dry quickly and are breathable. When caring for woollen base layers, it is therefore essential to maintain these properties.

Base layers are fantastic for temperature regulation and body moisture control, but to work properly, they need attention when washing.
Woollen items should be washed in gentle liquid detergents and avoid using powder or bio detergents that contain enzymes. Using standard household detergents or fabric softeners can impair wool properties by causing moisture to be retained in the fabric. This leads to reduced moisture-wicking ability and slow fabric drying, resulting in reduced user comfort. In addition, standard household fabric softeners and conditioners can lead to pilling during several washes.
Wash base layers after use...
After several uses of a base layer, wash it with Nikwax Wool Wash™, which will refresh it, remove odour, soften it and improve drying and cooling. Always use Nikwax Wool Wash™ on used woollen base layers, socks and travel clothing to keep them in perfect condition.
Standard household detergents and fabric softeners reduce the performance of your base layers...
Using standard household detergents and fabric conditioners impairs the moisture-wicking properties of base layer fabrics. Standard household detergents do not prevent odour formation in the fabric during use. Standard fabric conditioners leave residues that are water-repellent (hydrophobic) and which reduce fabric performance by preventing it from spreading moisture and functioning at its best.

How to use
Use Nikwax Wool Wash™ in the washing machine...
For treating stubborn stains before washing, use neat Nikwax Wool Wash™.
Remove any parts that cannot be washed. Follow the care label instructions. Do not use fabric conditioner. Do not use on waterproof clothing.
Shake well before use
- Place the item(s) in the washing machine.
- Use 1 full cap* (50 ml) of Nikwax Wool Wash™ for front-loading washing machines**.
- Wash according to the care label instructions.
* Rinse the cap after use.
** For top-loading washing machines in the USA and Canada, use 100 ml for low water level or 150 ml for medium water level.

Air dry or tumble dry on low heat if the care label permits (tumble drying may shrink or felt wool).
