This sword is known from the film "The Last Samurai". Saigo Takamori, the last samurai, ended a long tradition in 1877. He was the one who refused to accept the new political situation, the abolition of the samurai. He provoked a rebellion against the new government. His samurai warriors, however, had no chance against an army that was already equipped with modern firearms. The katana has a hand-forged blade made from carbon steel with a fine hamon and was traditionally hardened. The sharp blade is equipped with a hi (fuller) to reduce overall weight. The handle (tsuka) is made from wood, has been wrapped in genuine ray skin and has two menuki. In addition, it has been traditionally wrapped in black cotton. The tang is particularly long and secured with two bamboo pegs (mekugi). The scabbard (saya) is made from wood and the blade collar (habaki) is made from brass. This long sword was made according to historical patterns. The sword comes with a certificate of origin, a maintenance kit and a felt stand with a polished surface finish. It is wrapped in cloth and packed in a high-quality wooden box. All measurements are subject to estimation.
