The Wakizashi Golden Flower features an exceptionally beautiful tsuba, which was certainly crafted by a great master in the 18th century. Since these artisans, unlike blade smiths, did not sign their work, the maker's name is unknown. The tsuba is intricately decorated with golden cherry blossoms (sakura). The cherry blossom is one of the most important symbols of Japanese culture. It represents beauty, departure and the transience of life. The wakizashi has a hand-forged blade made from carbon steel with a fine hamon and was traditionally hardened. Furthermore, the blade steel was folded 12 times, which means approximately 8,000 layers were created, giving the sword a beautiful damascene pattern. The sharp blade is fitted with a hi (fuller) to reduce overall weight. The handle (tsuka) is made from wood, wrapped in genuine ray skin and contains two menuki. It was also traditionally wrapped in black cotton. The tang is particularly long and secured with a single bamboo peg (mekugi). The scabbard (saya) is made from wood and the blade collar (habaki) is made from brass. This tanto was crafted according to original museum exhibits. The sword comes with a certificate of origin, wrapped in cloth and packaged in a high-quality wooden box. All measurements are subject to estimation.
