This free-standing double-wall tent with an external aluminium frame has a 7,000 mm H₂O water column, snow skirts and sleeps two people with their luggage — climbers, ski tourers and cycle tourists will appreciate it.

A low profile and snow skirts

The 8.5 mm aluminium poles are threaded from the outside, so the tent goes up as a single unit and the inner bedroom stays dry even when you pitch it in the rain. The 105 cm height and narrow footprint leave little surface for the wind to push against. Snow skirts around the perimeter can be weighed down with snow or stones where pegs cannot be used; lightweight aluminium pegs anchor it on normal ground.

Ripstop polyester with a 7,000 mm water column

The 210T ripstop polyester flysheet has a polyurethane coating with a 7,000 mm H₂O water column and taped seams; the ripstop grid stops any tear before it spreads. The breathable 190T nylon inner tent with mosquito mesh carries moisture and condensation away, and the 190T polyester groundsheet with a PU coating has an 11,000 mm H₂O water column.

Pros and cons of the Husky Flame 2

✓ Pros: a proven model with a long history, a high 7,000 mm water column with taped seams, snow skirts for winter use, a low profile with little wind resistance, pitching from the outside without soaking the bedroom.

✗ Cons: the 105 cm height does not let you sit upright, a weight of 3.4 kg is above the ultralight bracket, one entrance, and the 315 cm length calls for a longer level pitch.

How it compares with related models

Husky Flame 1 is the one-person version, 0.7 kg lighter. Husky Falcon 2 is also a two-person winter tent, but has two entrances and weighs 0.8 kg more. Husky Sawaj 2 from the Ultralight range is 1.2 kg lighter, but has no snow skirts and a lower water column.
