Did you know that the name of the Saxon tribes (Anglo-Saxons) was derived from the knife they used extensively? The original Saxon knife was so important in their everyday life that it became the hallmark of an entire nation. Its use dates from the 6th to the 12th century, and the majority of historical finds were discovered in the south and east of the island of Great Britain. What was so exceptional about this knife that it lasted six centuries? It was highly practical and its manufacture was very simple, and therefore inexpensive. It was usually found without a sheath or with a sheath, with a simple wooden or bone handle as the grip. The knife offered a long, wide and strong blade with a straight edge. The Saxon tribes used this knife universally, for hunting and food preparation, but also for working with various materials, wood, leather and so on. Even in combat there was no reason for any disdain, because the balance and geometry of the blade (inclined forward) meant that the knife could cut sharply and at the same time did not require great effort when penetrating with the tip into an opponent. Because we love history, and especially medieval history, we bring you this magnificent medieval piece in an attempt to restore its forgotten glory once more. We are convinced of the working potential of the sax, so we decided to make a simple version of it, which we named the Woodsman's Sax. Like some historical saxes that have survived, the Woodsman's Sax also has a robust 280 mm long blade with a characteristic slope and an unadorned wooden handle made from exotic hardwoods. The Woodsman's Sax comes with a robust leather sheath, also with belt straps and highlighted with massive brass buckles.
