The Double Safe Hunter knife was designed by knifemaker Andrew Demko with the understanding that working knives are heavily used and frequently lost. Such a knife must often be used in harsh environments that can damage the blade. The blade therefore must be made from harder material and well sharpened. With these facts in mind, Cold Steel decided to create a reliable but very affordable working folder. This hunting knife is suitable for working with fish and smaller animals such as rabbits. During testing of the knife, however, there was no problem even when butchering elk. The wide blade of the knife is made from stainless steel 8Cr13MoV, which after heat treatment exhibits a hardness of 57–58 Rockwell. Thanks to the belly shape of the blade, the knife cuts very well. The handle of the knife is made from glass-filled nylon marked GFN. It has a deep texture so the knife does not slip even in wet or muddy hands. The knife is equipped with two safety catches for greater security. The blade is secured by a linerlock safety catch against accidental closure, as well as a secondary safety mechanism which, when engaged, is extremely resistant to impact.
