When discussing Japanese organised crime, everyone thinks of the Yakuza. It is founded on similar principles to the Italian mafia, that is, on family clans headed by an oyabun. The oyabun then controls all of his members, the kobun. Our Oyabun is a folding knife with a smooth tanto-shaped blade. It is a very unique and distinctive knife design by Andrew Demka. The tanto blade is made from Japanese stainless steel 4034. This stainless steel is comparable in its properties to AUS 8A or 440C steel. It is then heat-treated and hardened at sub-zero temperatures to a hardness of 57 Rc. Such a blade holds its edge well during normal use and sharpens relatively easily on standard sharpening stones without the need to use diamond. This knife also features a flipper opening, which we have come to like very much recently. The handle is made up of two parts. The lower base is made by high-pressure injection moulding from Griv-Ex™ material. It is then covered with a soft textured Kray-Ex™ surface for a more comfortable grip. The soft part is attached to the frame with two screws and is equipped with a dual locking system. The primary lock is a liner lock and a secondary sliding lock secures the blade in the open position, so the liner lock cannot be broken.
