If you mention gear or EDC, most people think of things like backpack, footwear, a flashlight or knife. But one thing is often forgotten. A proper belt that holds it all together. Today we present two handy pieces suitable for a whole range of adventures as well as everyday situations. The plastic Byen and the metal Cobra.

Byen
Byen is a simple belt with a plastic slide buckle. A proper belt doesn't need to be a technical marvel, and often a simple approach is the best one. It consists of a strap made of 100% nylon with a plastic buckle. The strap is 4 cm wide and the buckle is approx. 5.5 cm. The strap has a subtle ribbed pattern. This is a functional element that helps grip the strap in the buckle without much slipping. Around the perimeter of the buckle there are grooves with a narrowing in the middle section. It has a low profile, so it doesn't stick out unnecessarily. On the underside of the buckle body there are recesses that lighten the buckle but, thanks to a well-chosen design, do not weaken it.
As I mentioned, the Byen is a classic pull-through belt. You thread the strap through the buckle, set the length, tighten the first part, and pull the second end tight. No science involved. Thanks to the grooves on the buckle, it doesn't slip under your fingers, and the ribbed structure holds the strap in place without shifting.
It has no metal parts. This makes it ideal for jobs where you frequently pass through magnetic gates or aren't allowed to carry metal objects. It's perfect for everyday wear. It's sturdy, discreet, and yet versatile. I wear it to work 6 days a week and thanks to its low profile and weight, I forget I even have it on. I don't feel the buckle during more active movement. It's also suitable for drivers. It has also proven itself as a light tactical belt, although for the way it fastens, I tend to choose other types, such as the Cobra or belts with a duraflex buckle, instead. It suited an environment where I didn't need to fasten/unfasten a belt quickly. Inside-the-waistband holsters as well as outside kydex ones fit it well. It can handle a firearm, backup ammunition (1 magazine in a pouch or a speed loader for a revolver), a multitool, and a phone case. It's not built for heavier loads. After all, it's not a combat belt.
For a fairly modest price, I got a discreet but reliable accessory for everyday use.
Cobra
The second elegant piece comes from a slightly more action-oriented direction. The Cobra is more complex than the Byen. The straps have a similar structure, also made of 100% nylon, however the Cobra's strap is 3.5 cm wide. The buckle is approx. 5 cm wide, thanks to which it fits into tactical trousers and shorts, such as the Helikon Urban Tactical (UTP / UTS), Pentagon Ranger, and older BDU (battle dress uniform) cuts, without needing to pull the strap out of the buckle.
The buckle is inspired by the design line of climbing carabiners and buckles of the Austri Alpin type. It's a mix of aluminum, cast iron, and steel. This achieves a low, comfortable weight, yet sufficient for most everyday activities. The buckle closes with a simple snap of both parts into each other, the so-called male and female parts. The length is adjusted by tightening or loosening the strap on the parts with the center pin.
The Cobra has proven itself not only as a belt for EDC (every day carry) but also as a workhorse during lighter tactical exercises or hiking. It's comfortable, and if you like military or climbing-inspired designs, it will catch your eye at first glance. However, it's not climbing gear or heavy tactical equipment. There are other types for that, which are similar but focus elsewhere in terms of material structure. For a hiking trip through the Strážovské vrchy or airsoft, a beginner doesn't need to jump straight to the Mustang belt from Direct Action. Everyone can choose according to their taste and means, of course. At the shooting range, though, it does what it's supposed to do, comfortably and reliably.
It also serves equally well during field research of nocturnal birds of prey, when it carries an IFAK, a knife, a tourniquet, a flashlight holster, an admin pouch, a multitool, a firearm, and sometimes even an attached thigh panel. In short, the Cobra is an elegant companion for every day and every activity, one that looks stylish while still being ready to get its hands figuratively dirty.

In conclusion
Reliable things don't have to be expensive, and good things don't have to be complicated. Sometimes, in order to feel comfortable or practically solve your everyday needs, a well-chosen design is all it takes. The Byen and Cobra are a good example of this. They versatily cover most of your everyday needs without unnecessarily burdening your wallet. At the same time, they remain elegant, stylish, and discreet.
