It can be anything practical that you use and carry with you every day.

It depends on what kind of work you do and what leisure activities you pursue. What criteria should be considered when choosing an EDC knife?

For activities that require push cutting, reach for a knife with a smooth edge instead. Such activities are, for example, peeling fruit or cutting cardboard, where you would hardly use a knife with a serrated edge. Those are more suitable for cutting wood, plastics or for cutting through ropes.
Lock and opening mechanism
For folding knives, don't forget about the opening mechanism and lock. They are also an important criterion when choosing a knife. The lock is fundamentally not a matter of the visual side of the knife but primarily its functional side. The lock is meant to protect against unwanted opening of the knife, for example during falls. In that case, it is important that it be fixed, and thus help prevent injury to fingers and hand.
Design and comfort of use
Have you already chosen a knife that is functional, with a nice design and suitable for your work, but it doesn't sit comfortably in your hand?
