This is one of the finest premium katanas in our range. The blade is made from 12x (approximately 8,000 layers) folded carbon steel, differentially hardened with a clay layer to 60 HRC on the blade and approximately 40 HRC on the spine. The blade is also made in Kobuse style (hard shell, soft core). The master polisher's craftsmanship reveals the damascene structure and temper line, emphasised by the mirror finish on the blade spine. All fittings (Tsuba, Menuki, Fuchi and Kashira) are hand-forged and set into a simple autumn scene depicting the beauty of the moment. This simple yet elegant decoration is in the style of the Edo period (1603 - 1868). The handle is wrapped in black silk, bound with traditional paper triangles (Hishigami) and genuine ray skin. Two tapered mekugi (bamboo pegs) join the long tang and handle of the sword. The black, highly polished lacquered scabbard is decorated with ray skin inlay. In addition to quality sageo, the scabbard also impresses with fittings (koiguichi, kurigata, kojiri) made from buffalo horn. The package includes an attractive wooden collector's box, a canvas pouch with print, a seal and a certificate.
